MacEwen Agricentre is the largest and most dynamic agribusiness operations in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec employing over 100 full time and seasonal employees.

Who We Are

We are an independent, locally owned enterprise with strong family values. Jim’s daughters are now active in the company making them the fourth generation involved in the business. Our strategy involves investing locally which allows us to be customer focused by remaining within the community and allowing for prompt decisions due to the company’s proximity.

What sets MacEwen Agricentre apart from the competition is our people and our understanding of how to best customize a solution for all your grain, feed, and crop input needs. From our locations in Maxville, Vars and Cobden, we operate state-of-the-art facilities and provide one-on-one customer service with the goal of establishing long-term business relationships.

Our history

1983

New owners close the feed mill and Jim MacEwen, William R’s son and William A’s grandson, buys it back and re-opens with two employees as MacEwen Feed and Fertilizer Inc.

1984

MacEwen buys the assets of Dalkeith Feed mill in Dalkeith, Ontario.

1985

MacEwen buys the assets of Lalonde Feed mill in Hammond, Ontario.

1992

MacEwen buys the assets of Maurice Lamoureux Ltd. in St. Isidore, Ontario.

1992

MacEwen Feed and Fertilizer Inc. is renamed MacEwen Agricentre Inc.

1995

1992–1995 – MacEwen operates two mills: dairy feed in Maxville and poultry feed in St. Isidore.

1998

Extensive renovations in St. Isidore include a new pellet line and innovative European “expander”.

1998

Maxville feed mill closes and production moves to St. Isidore.

2000

MacEwen installs two modern, multi-million dollar fertilizer blending towers in Maxville and Vars, Ontario.

2012

Newly constructed feed mill opens in Maxville.

2012

All production moves to Maxville feed mill and St. Isidore closes.

2015

Construction begins on the first of five fertilizer storage domes in Maxville, with access to rail.

2015

MacEwen purchases Millar Feed and Seed in Cobden, Ontario.

2016

Construction is completed on a fertilizer storage and blending facility in Cobden and a 30,000-square-foot crop protection warehouse in Maxville.

2021

Work begins on a multi-million dollar feed mill expansion in Maxville, an additional storage and pelleting line, and a second expander to accommodate greater volume.

Today

MacEwen operates from three locations: Maxville, Vars and Cobden, employing more than 100 people.

Jim MacEwen has been the driving force behind the success of MacEwen Agricentre since he started the company in November 1983. For him, the most rewarding aspect of his job is watching his company continue to grow and be an innovative leader in the agricultural community.

Jim believes that MacEwen Agricentre stands out from the competition largely because the company hires only the best – people who are willing go the extra mile to provide customers with the highest-quality products and services.

In addition, Jim has ensured that MacEwen Agricentre continually re-invests in high-quality facilities and equipment. He leads his team in maintaining a stellar image in the region that reflects the company’s brand, its clean, reliable equipment and its superior customer service.

James leads our crop input sales from of our Cobden plant in the Ottawa Valley. James’ greatest pride in working with the MacEwen crop input team is the significant investment that the company makes in local agriculture—welcomed by local producers.

James has more than 20 years of experience in the dairy industry, so he knows that farming is not a nine-to-five job. James has a strong personal and professional relationship with his customers and is a true “Valley Boy”.

Martin Charlebois has many years of experience in the feed and grain industry. He started his career by working 10 years in this agricultural sector as a miller. He was then promoted to the position of team leader and finally became a Feed Mill Supervisor of a HACCP certified establishment. Martin also has experience as a Millwright representative and as a team leader.

For the past 20 years, Martin has been working as a Grain Merchandiser. Throughout this period, he has attended many training and educational sessions related to this industry either at the ITA- Saint-Hyacinthe campus or the University of Guelph Campus in Alfred. Martin looks forward to serving you and to help in further developing strategies and positions.

Emily graduated from the Farm Management and Technology program at McGill University’s Macdonald Campus in 2017. She grew up on a dairy farm in the Eastern Townships where her passion for animals began. She has always been involved in agriculture in one aspect or another including participating in her local 4-H Club.  Having grown up in Quebec, she is proficient in both English and French. She moved to Eastern Ontario in the spring of 2018.

Emily joined the MacEwen Agricentre Inc. team in June 2019 working as a Dairy Nutrition Advisor. After working with cattle in many different capacities, she has developed an interest for the dairy industry and is very eager to work with all of MacEwen’s clients to help them reach and exceed their goals.

With more than 35 years of experience in the crop input business, Gilles is a familiar face in Glengarry, Prescott, and Russel Counties. Gilles is one of MacEwen’s Certified Crop Advisors and is also one of the first CCAs in Ontario to have successfully completed the 4R specialty.

Gilles is well respected by his customers and peers, both for his knowledge and community involvement. Gilles has been with MacEwen since 2009 and enjoys working with the comany because of its long-term commitment and investment in Eastern Ontario agriculture.

If you do not see Gilles out in his customers’ fields looking for pest or disease, he can be found doing crop tours on his motorcycle across North America.

Erik joined the MacEwen Agricentre team as an operator in 2015 with three prior years’ experience in fertilizer and chemicals.

After completing the Agriculture Program at Kemptville College and working a full season on a large farm in New Zealand—in addition to many years of farming on his family farm in St-Albert and his in-laws’ dairy farm in Monkland—Erik has a lot of experience under his belt. Therefore, he knows how critical and how difficult it is to make the right decisions.

Since he joined MacEwen, he has become a Crop Advisor with a relatable approach who takes pride in meeting farmers’ needs and solving any issues that may arise in the counties of Stormont, Dundas and Russel.

Carley is a Crop Advisor who has worked with MacEwen’s crop input team since 2010, when she joined as a summer student, delivering spreaders, blending fertilizer and assisting with logistics.

After graduating from Algonquin College with a Business Management diploma in 2014, Carley returned to MacEwen to work full-time. She has also served as the Operation Manager’s assistant, which has provided her with hands-on experience to meet customers’ needs all year.

As Crop Advisor, Carley uses her knowledge and dedication to build long-lasting relationships with all the clients she works with. Her passion for agriculture is reflected in her everyday work as she shows tremendous promise for the future.

Shelley began her journey with MacEwen in 2015 as a summer student doing deliveries, blending fertilizer and scouting fields in between completing her schooling and working on her family’s dairy farm in Russell. Upon receiving her Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Guelph, she continued her employment with MacEwen Agricentre permanently and as one of our trusted Crop Assistants.

Shelley is a very detail-oriented person who is particular about ensuring that each and every customer is satisfied with the sales and service they receive from MacEwen’s.

Coralie graduated from McGill University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in agricultural and environmental sciences with a specialization in animal health and disease. She worked in veterinary hospitals as an assistant for 5 years before joining the MacEwen Agricentre team in 2021 as a dairy nutrition advisor.

Having grown up in Montreal, Coralie developed a passion for the dairy industry while working on a dairy farm in Quebec and later on in Switzerland. She was involved in the daily operations such as milking and feeding the cows, taking care of the calves and administering treatments. She understands the dedication it takes to operate a farm.

Coralie enjoys building relationship with the clients and is always looking for the next challenge. She wants to help farmers reach their goals while always maintaining the health of the cows as her priority.

Since 1988, Lenny Van Loon has been successfully contributing to MacEwen Agricentre’s positioning as a leader in the industry. Born and raised on a dairy farm, Lenny is well trained and extremely experienced in the industry.

Lenny believes that the most rewarding part of working with MacEwen Agricentre is helping customers achieve their profitability goals. He’s proud that many of his clients have the highest production results in Eastern Ontario.

With a series of accolades under his belt, including being a certified Dairy Nutrition Advisor and obtaining a degree from University of Illinois in Dairy Nutrition and Science. Lenny is able to bring to the MacEwen team a wealth of useful industry knowledge.

John is our sales and service representative for the crop input division, covering the south and west parts of Ottawa Carleton and Lanark County. He has been with MacEwen since 2014 and brought more than 20 years of agricultural sales experience in the Ottawa valley when he joined.

John enjoys the fast pace of the ag industry, from precision ag, to drones, to new cropping technologies. John can offer customers a personal and practical point of view, as he cash crops with his family on his own farm, using the latest technologies and practices.

John was born and raised on a dairy farm before attending the University of Guelph, where he graduated with an AG Business diploma in 1998. Currently a partner in his family’s cash-crop farm, he farms 1,000 acres and custom farms another 1,500 acres.

John likes to try new things on his own farm before recommending them to customers, which is why you can always depend on his guidance for all your crop input needs.

Bert has been growing corn, soybeans and wheat for over 20 years in Renfrew county. He takes great pride in working with the MacEwen team, helping customers grow better and more profitable crops.

Being from a cash crop farm in Green Valley, Ontario, Vanessa knows what the modern-day grower needs to succeed. For the past 5 years, she has been working hard as a crop consultant in the Stormont, Russell and Prescott areas.

With a diploma in Agricultural Sciences from the University of Guelph and her Certified Crop Advisor certification, she can share her knowledge regarding corn, soybean, cereal, and forage production with growers with the goal of increasing yields and efficacy.

Willow graduated from the University of Guelph in 2023 with a Bachelor of Science, studying animal biology and minoring in nutritional and nutraceutical sciences. She grew up on a beef farm in Leeds and Grenville, where she developed a passion for ruminants, which continued to grow while working on a dairy farm over the past eight years. Willow was also involved in her community, participating in her local 4H club showing dairy calves. Through her former experiences, she has learned the strength and skills required to operate farms in the dairy industry.

In May 2023, Willow joined the MacEwen Agricentre Inc. team working as a Dairy Nutrition Assistant. She is eager to continue to stay connected to the dairy industry along with developing and utilizing her skills to build relationships and help clients continue to reach their goals.

Since 1986, Eric has played a key role in helping MacEwen become a leader in the industry. From feed production and fertilizer deliveries to grain elevator and sales, Eric has worn many hats in the company.

Today, he oversees the daily operations of grain elevators and the fertilizer plant in Maxville, Ontario. “We always purchase the latest technology and equipment ahead of when we actually need it, so it is ready to work when the real demand is there for it. I’m proud to say that we implement change before the customers even realize a need for it.”

Eric has a diploma in Agriculture from Kemptville College and is a director (and past president) of Kenyon Agriculture Society. He is a pillar of the local community and a valuable asset to the continued success at MacEwen Agricentre Inc.

David is the Operations Manager at our Vars facility. A dedicated individual who excels at bringing his customers the best-quality on-time service, David has been with MacEwen Agricentre Inc. since 2012, and has developed a loyal following among his clients.

Originally from northern Ontario, David worked with heavy equipment for 12 years. He joined the MacEwen team after working as a harvest manager on a sod farm for five years. His strong leadership skills and dedication to customer service excellence have ensured the continued success of our Vars facility.
